Recently my Omnia 2 device started to hang up now and then.
The screen just freeze up.
In order to do a soft reset, I have to open the back cover
and access the soft reset hole with a stylus.
It is really inconvenient, especially if you have a protective
leather or plastic casing over your device.

Is there anyway I can assign a front panel or side panel
button (s) to do this job.?

Thank you

Installing SPB mobile shell 3.5 has a soft reset option you can place on the screen in the for of a widget if you like. Its not free but it is worth the money.

The problem for me is that when the phone hangs
the screen totally freeze and even the front buttons
dont work.

Usually, one can use the front panel right button at
the bottom to do a reset.

Try to fix the cause not the symptom. List what programs you have installed and someone might know of a conflict or other problem with one or more of them. Also don't install any from warez sites because eventually you'll get something malicious on your phone which will cause slow running and freezes.
Also, do you close your running programs with task manager or do you have lots of them running at the same time?

ill second the motion on warez...nothing but garbage....way too big of a chance to take when you can find the same thing  at the same "price" by doing a bit of searching on your own...

I have the same issue with my i8000 Omnia II. It goes blank only the top windows 'start' icon shows but it is not functional when the phone freezes up. The widgets cannot be seen as my screen is all black. I have installed Skype and the Orientation Detection program via the Samsung Mobile Innovator website. Would this be considered warez software?  If so then I will uninstall it.

I usually do not have a lot of applications running in the background. I will usually check my task manager and end any applications that are open which I do not need at that point in time.

When I go to 'Settings' and review 'Main Storage' it shows a list of programs like skype Google maps , Samsung windows mobile SDK, and the Orientation detection tool. Should this be installed here in the main storage?  Is this correct? Isn't it taking up my memory this way? When I installed the program  I chose the option ' MY Storage' meaning my hard drive on my phone.

?!?

I have that as well; when I checked using WMDC, the programs were in My Storage, not in the Main Storage. I think this is done to make it easier to remove programs.

After about a week of working well my omnia II froze again.  This is about the 4th or 5th time this has happened. The phone comes with a one year warranty from Samsung so I may get them to look at it or have them replace it. I am going to have to take a look at the other WM phones like HTC.

I would hard reset and slowly add in programs before sending it away. Does your service provider support Skype? I ask because I don't think mine does and I could see my O2 acting like yours is if I try to use it.

If it's just the screen input that freezes, can't you just turn the phone off/on to reset it ? If you buttons are frozen also, assigning one to soft reset (if at all possible) probably won't help you much..

Casz, didn't I see you say that you were with Bell ? If you are, it does support Skype just fine and you can make voice calls over 3G no problem. Just make sure your data plan can handle it.
