Just spent the afternoon installing various spb programs etc... and now a full memory = ie 76MB ?? - Is this all there really is??

(I installed as many of the apps to storage card as possible, but many insist on going to 'device')

And now searching the forum leads me 30+ steps to reduce mem?!?!?

No wonder the thing spends most of its time in a drawer (yes I'm peeved at needing to spend more than an afternoon to config it to find i may not even get messages now the mem is full....)

You need to install items to "My Storage" or storage card. You can shift many items to the storage card from the device.

Yes this phone needs to be tweaked. But the rewards far outnumber those who have this with verizon with all their bloatware. Sure you will pay less per se with say Verizon, and all will be good. But take into account the charges that they mandate you pay... contract, data, etc.

Me personally, yes, I was peeved too when I first got this phone and was ready to chunk it, but I stuck with it and followed the great instructions given on this forum and now, I have a phone that is a far cry better than out there and I don't have a contract with at&t, don't have THEIR bloatware and don't have to pay their mandated "data" chgs as with the iphone as a example.

To get something nice, you have to work at it. It will always come with a price.. either by contract or our own work; never free.

Follow wizards 32 steps as many have, and you will be happy with this phone and will have gained value knowledge.

Thanks for the encouraging words...

I do like the phone ... the number of 'but's are starting to get a bit frustrating.

I don't think a phone should require so much work...there's really very few functions/apps that cant be more productive on a computer (pls point out some that are).

It all makes me think that mobiles have become the new opiates for the masses, replacing TV.  Spend hours configuring a phone instead of.... I know what I'd rather be doing.

I too think they shouldn't require so much work. However, what is your alternative? Get a locked phone to a specific carrier and not be able to do much at all? Have all the carrier's "bloatware" stuck in there where you can't modify or remove anything? Be tied to a contract?

I agree with you. We shouldn't have to do so much. As an example, my sister has the 16gb iphone. Yes, it's nice, but there is no way it can do what this Omnia does. Not the apps, camera, skins per se.. nothing. Plus the cost. Don't forget about that. The added cost that the carrier REQUIRES because they are greedy for money and want more. We on the other hand, don't have to endure all that. So, in the long run as always, you get what you pay for.

I would rather be doing something else also. But in my case, this is a learning experience for me. And you are absolutely right about what the phone are becoming. Keep in mind who they are geared to.. the younger crowd, not say someone my age (50+). Again, it is all about money, not simplicity any more.

Sound like you want a more 'basic' phone then and not a Pocket PC.

Hi, I am a new Samsung Omnia i910 owner.  I came across your message about saving Device Memory.  I checked out what I had used and I think I need to do some deleting or redistribution of files?   Storage free: 10.97 MB  Program free: 61.52 MB

As I began to explore files I became confused as to how to begin... could you, or do you have time to help me, through this process??
Appreciatively,
Sarah

1st step - when installing all applications, you must choose to install in "\My Storage" or "\Storage Card", do not choose to install in "Device"

HM, brarce yourself.  I've done two hard resets to re-install everything to storage card, and even with just SPB shell and a few other apps am down to under 10mb;  - but to be sure it is now a fairly sexy device.

I plan to do the simpler of these steps this week, not having time to get detailed.  Once I'm done I hope SPB backup can restore all settings for next hard reset.  If not, I'm probably done with this phone.

tiger just for interest sake I to are running spb shell 3.0 with a few other apps and my ram is running at around the 18 to 20mb mark!

You didn't install any extras like lifestye wallpaper screens because a heap of them can take up a lot of device memory?

Hi Wizard

I followed your process below to replace the 25 files with 288b but when I tried to paste into Omnia's windows, the paste option is not highlighted. I also tried to drag and drop but it does not allow me to drop into Omnia's windows. Please tell me if I have missed a step like renaming the 25 mp3 files first before performing the below process.

1. Connect Omnia to PC using the data cable.
2. "Microsoft ActiveSync" will appear
3. Click "Explore"
4. "Mobile Device" will appear
5. Double click "My Windows Mobile-Based Device"
6. Double click "Windows"
7. Copy the files on PC & paste into Omnia's Windows
8. Confirm File Replace will appears, click yes
9. Cose "Mobile Device"
10. Close "Microsoft ActiveSync"
11. Detach data cable from Omnia & PC
12. Soft reset Omnia

sehleikong  ...

Try this method.  http://www.samsung-omnia.org/how-to/how-to-replace-any-system-file-in-windows-folder/

Keeping in mind that TC will allow you the Ctrl button option, (at the bottom of the window),
to select multiple files.

Also keep in mind, You can't replace a file currently in use. If you previewed it (them) earlier,
your media player may need to be 'shut down' completely.

Works for me..! ( I almost never use "ActiveSync") Cheesy

Let us know how you go.

Hi Metalmanicman..

I have installed Total Commander and followed the steps you mentioned. After unchecking the "Read Only", "Archive", "System" and Hidden" Properties. I clicked ok and I also tried clicking on the change now. But when I go back to "Launcher.exe.T1.skin" to check, the items are still checked. Please advise me what I should do next. For your information, the "Achive" property is originally unchecked.

Sehleikong...
I thought you were trying to overwrite some mp3 files.!?

The launcher skin file info was for that specific poster, linked to you as an example of the process.
(My apologies for any confusion.)

As for checking the file afterwards, I've never done that. I've always just copied the new file in and it worked for me.  But, I now notice the same thing.  Huh?
Even so, I could still replace the mp3 files.
That's what you're trying to do. Isn't it?

The main difficulty with overwriting those mp3's is that they are 'read only'. That, and 'Hidden' are the only ones checked. After replacing, 'Archive' will be the only one checked.
You may need to uncheck that to replace the file again. (if you were to)
Total Commander will overwrite them.!  Persevere. !

Did you try that 'process' to replace your mp3 files?
