Hi All,

I am using GPS on my Samsung Omnia and found that the battery consumption is very high. Any gps application drains the entire battery in around 6 hours.
I even tried out the sample gps application(meant for windwos mobile) given by microsoft in my Samsung Omnia and the results were the same.
So it seems to me that gps, when running continuously, drains the entire battery in around 6 hours.

Any help in optimizing the battery consumption would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Mark. C

I don't think so... and you've got it good... My battery will die within 1.5 MAX!!!
Your batter is drained not by the GPS application, but by the communication between GPS chip and the satellites. If you will download an app called GPSToggle, you will see that as soon as you will turn on your GPS, your phone will get very hot and your battery charge will start to decrease...

If you will find something that would prove me wrong, I'd love to hear about it as I'm not liking the battery life when I'm using my GPS.

If GPS really drains your battery really fast, then if you install GPSgate which runs even if your not using your GPS application (Garmin, tomtom, iGO) does it mean its also draining your battery even on standby?

i900 DXIA5. Windows XP

Anything that 'runs' drains your battery, but less so when it's on standby. GPSgate shouldn't drain your battery like a GPS app as it is only a 'gate' which allows 2 apps to use the same GPS settings. One app cannot reserve the port only for it's self, the gate allows another to use it if it needs to.
