After much searching I’ve decided to go for IGO8 as my sat nav. I’ve downloaded a file called
“IGO8 with uk maps.rar” what do I do with this now?
Sorry if this is a bit basic but am new to windows mobile and I don’t want to make my phone blow up as its working fine at the mo. :Smiley

Thanks for any help

good choice, the iGO8 is a very nice gps software!
you probably want to start off by extracting the files on your pc. then copy the install files to the phone and run the install/setup file. thats one of the ways to install programs on the omnia.

Still having no luck with this. The “read me” file which came with this when i extracted it said:

“This is works great on unlocked sat navs with windows ce 5.0 im using it on my navigo,just put the folder igo8 on your sd card in your desired folder such as my documents or programs, if you cant find it when you switch on click on "my device" and look in the SMMC when you find the IGO8 folder open it and find the short cut icon,click "file" on top and set up a desk top short cut,the short cut will appear when you restart your device.Do not go moving the folder around when it is on your device or it will fail to start and youl have to delete it off the sd card and put it back on. Now you can run igo8”

Absolutely not a clue.

When I put the igo8 file in “my storage” (i don’t currently have a card) and run the IGO8 icon i get the message:

“Program application database cannot be found. Please insert original application SD card.”

Has anyone got this: “IGO8 with uk maps.rar”  to work or does anyone have a workaround for this?
Alternatively I would appreciate it if you could point me in the direction of an IG08 file with uk maps which they have got to work on the omnia.

Thanks for any help.

download this one: "*** censored ***" from pirate bay. that works perfectly. remember to turn your omnia over to landscape before you start the program after installing it.

I noticed alot of people are mentioning a 2247 folder, what is this and where do i find it, all the files seem to be on the phone but no .exe or 2247 folder, any ideas??

omniaheaveb,

If you are installing iGO8 to "My Storage" and not to a Storage card then you must edit the sys.txt file that's in the iGo8 directory.

1)  If you already installed iGO8 onto your phone then connect the phone to your computer via ActiveSync.  Find the sys.txt file in your igo8 directory and copy it to your computer.
2)  Open the sys.txt file that you copied and open it with notepad.
3)  You will see that the application is set to run from a certain directory.

By default it says:

[project]
name="igo8_pda"

[folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

[interface]
maxzoom2d=6000000
show_exit=1

[rawdisplay]
driver=gdi

This setup makes it so it runs from your Storage Card since that's the default way to install iGO8.

You need to change the app= line to the My Storage folder where you installed igo8

[folders]
app="/My Storage/iGO8"

or wherever you have it installed.  You didn't need to download the program again.  Let me know if you get it to work.  I am using iGO8 as well and it works great.

At night I cannot sleep.  Forcefully and constantly researching and updating my phone.  Searching for that next big update.  Sometimes life completely revolves around my Omnia.

wushdishmeen, thanks for the tips!

however, i had originally installed igo8 onto 'storage card', i have since tried to copy it across to 'my storage' and applied the changes to the sys.txt file and it does the same thing, tried running the app in landscape and makes no difference, when i try to re-load igo i get a error saying 'a previous instance of igo is still exiting' Sad......think it might be the version of igo that i downloaded, tried many of the links to download and most are dead. where did you get your version from?

Again....thanks for the help

This is not a joke but have u waived it around the house/ or go outside the house?
GPS is horrible inside the building.
And are you sure you got the right map for your location? because with me it says i am in London but I am not... because i had the wrong map LOL. I updated it with the right maps and it works fine.
But it still take alittle longer for the GPS to track my location, around 10min....
I dont know why... I read from another forum some people turn on "enhance GPS" to make it go faster, but I dont have a data plan so it's too costy for me....

Also just a pre-warning GPS eats up alot of battery power so use a car-charger if you have one. I really need to get me a Car-charger ASAP hahahaha

also wushidishmeen

you said we have to change sys.txt right?
I dont get it since you already installed IGO8, and it loads from "my storage" why do we still have to change that line into app="/My Storage/iGO8" ?
can you try to explain alittle bit more clearer on that part? thankyou
