ok  lets go in order...

1. that is the rom or basically what operates your phone...the 3 things at the bottom you posted  thats firmware...
2.  this will let you know how to see when it was made and if there is newer...  lots of good info in that post.
3. either by the new pc studio software that came with your phone, downloaded from a samsung website or a program called octans.   octans is not factory supported but more widely used  because you can put the exact rom or firmware you want in the phone.
4. when a new one is released it usually fixes some bugs in the previous version and sometimes makes things better overall.  sometimes not much is noticeable.

pda is the basic operations of the phone...programs and such....
csc is language oriented and some internal workings
phone is the radio settings...

there are authorized firmware,  unauthorized as in its released but not officially(like a beta version), and "cooked" or custom that people have made that have some programs  but not others..  usually done to free up memory.

theres a lot to read about before you do any flashing on your own and not with the new pc studio software...nps only will update it if there is an official one for that exact phone...

i could go on for hours but the best thing is for you to google  it and just read about it and get familisr with it...then ask questions so when answered it will make some sense.

hope this helped some Smiley
