If you download the PDF instructions, and use them in conjunction with turbotrdcelica's write up - it is VERY easy to do:

Quote from turbotrdcelica:

Heres a summary of how I did it.  The PDF leaves much to be desired in the directions and who wants to read through 45 pages to know how to do it on modaco.

Follow the link in the first post

Download those files

First Install the CDMA modem Driver.  This is located on the VZACCESS CD that came with your Omnia.  navigate to the driver folder and make sure that the driver matches the version that the PDF says.  Do not run the file that has the version on it.  Run the setup.exe in that same folder.

Once installed restart your computer.

Now go into active sync (XP) or windows mobile device center (Vista/Win7)  Go to Settings, Connections, and Uncheck allow USB connections.  Hit ok.  Close Active sync/WMDC

Open UMDL_OMNIA_v2.3.exe

Click Unified Image File
Browse for the i910WM6.1.REV10.CC20.VZW.img file, Select it.

Now Click Detect!

Power off your phone

Plug it into the USB Sync cable, plug the cable into a USB2.0 compliant USB port on your computer.  Make sure nothing is going to disturb the cable connection while flashing otherwise you'll have a bricked Omnia.  I routed the cord so that it was away from my chair so if I roll out I won't catch it & pull the cord out, I locked my office door so that no one could come in and distract me, etc....

Now power on your phone.

The UMDL_OMNIA_v2.3.exe will detect your phone booting and start to install the new rom.

DO NOT touch the phone, or the computer.  Let it finish

Once your phone reboots it's done but it will take awhile for it to actually boot up the first time.

If you have programs installed on your MY STORAGE.  You will need to go into MY STORAGE/Program Files and delete everything that is in there otherwise when you install the new programs they will error upon running.  I noticed this with Google Maps.  I was erroring every time I went into GPS settings. I deleted program files and reinstalled google maps and it works good now.  I set Windows to manage the GPS after going into the phone settings>GPS>and set location oN and powered the phone off and back on.  It failed finding satellites the first time but the 2nd time it found 4 satellites and locked & gave my exact position.  I'm happy.

Also this was with Vista Home Premium with TVPack 2008

End quote

Some users have also reported that this is needed (although it seems to only be needed for some people):
Set programs to com 8 and a baud of 57600 for the GPS to work (this would be in individual programs - I had to do it in Igo, but everything else "just worked").

Take care,
Rob

DOH!! 6.5 seems pretty cool... I just flashed to Blaze's ROM and I love it... but 6.5 is VERY tempting....

Take care,

Its neat looking, but is already long in the tooth in my book.  My 6.1 rom has more free space, is faster, uses less ram, and is more stable.  Even stripped down, it has as many, if not more features than 6.5.

Install something like SPB MS3, M2D, or PointUI2, and the advantages of Wm 6.5 are quickly forgotten.

Not trying to sell people on my rom (as if its for sale), but its my personal view.  I'm content with my rom.  The hackjob that is wm 6.5 in its current state on the Omnia bothers me.

I will probably wait for it to officially release before I start cooking with it.

Just installed WoZZeR's Lite WM6.5 ROM and I LOVE it..  So far I haven't run into any problems what so ever.. GPS, WiFI, it all works.  So do all of my regular programs so far.  Super satisfied with this and being that it's only a beta version I'm sure it only going to get better by leaps and bounds from here.  Way to go WoZZeR!

Edit:

I'd do the upgrade if nothing else changed but the loading icon!  It's soo much better looking now.  The ugly loading 'box' was a huge complaint of mine in WM 6.1.

A hard reset will not revert to the previously installed ROM..  At the current time I don't believe there is a way to go back to true 'factory settings' unless you were to find an image of the stock ROM which I don't believe exists.  A hard reset clears everything you've installed/saved off the main storage and reverts to the last ROM installed.  Hope that clarifies it a bit for you

You can do a partial dump, but from what I hear you cannot obtain a backup from a non-updated phone.  Bottom line once you commit you're stuck with the leaked ROM

I have been thinking of reseting it and wondering what it will do because i am having some text messaging problems with it and going to another to see if it would fix it.
