OK, so it looks like I will probably get the Grandmax G600 adapter. That way I can use my existing USB-to-MiniUSB cable and possibly my Razr charger with this phone just the way it would work with MOST phones. No need to switch modes, etc.

And the 10UBE cable will have to just be for syncing or transferring data from computer, which I'm not sure how often will be done anyway.

It's a bit of a hassle, but not expensive if you shop online. I needed the cable right away, so I had to pay almost $25 locally. But the Grandmax adapter, and most 3rd party USB-to-MiniUSB cables, can be found pretty cheap online. So it's not that big of a deal.

Thanks for the tip!

"Thanks for the tip" -- heheheh, pun intended??  Wink

Thinking I'll get that G600 adapter tip as well, since I have a good half-dozen mini-USB wall adapters (two Motorolas, three HTCs, and a Magellan GPS), two or three mini-USB car adapters, and at least a dozen mini-USB data cables kicking around... wish I'd known about it BEFORE I bought a separate car adapter, but then again, that was only $11 *with* the windshield mount, so...

Just a note to folks who may already be aware - I was on Amazon.com looking at travel adapters and other accessories. They were stupid cheap (like $3 or so for the official Samsung model) from a number of Amazon Marketplace sellers. So I thought I'd just go that route, as it's a bit more of a solid solution. But what they DON'T tell you is that they're going to charge more than the price of the object for shipping and handling, and for EACH ITEM. So I had about $40 in various accessories (power adapter, headset, headphones adapter, screen protectors, etc.), but the grand total after shipping came to OVER $100!!! What a scam.

I'll order the $5 part from Grandmax thank you.

Instead of buying a $20.00 cable and a $20.00 USB charger, why not go to Wal-Mart and buy a $15.00 charger.  That was my solution while out of town with just a USB charger that did not charge my phone.  However the USB charger works with my wifes inexpensive Samsung phone but not the Omnia...Go Figure!
I would prefer to carry 1 less charger, however $15.00 is a reasonable solution.

I read this whole thread a couple days ago and got a UBE cable (to go along with the BBE that came with the phone).  Personally, I'm content to quick charge the phone while it's off in the car with the UBE cable.  I think I can 'unplug' my self from the world for an hour and not die.

It's just ignorant that there NEEDS to be so many different cable designs.  Will this one charge?  Will that one?  Phone on?  Phone off?  ActiveSync installed or not?  Will it work with USB car adapters?  Your guess is as good as mine!

Proprietary sync and charging cables is SO 2002.

Hello All,

I believe that I have a solution to the Omnia II charging problem.  I noticed that my Omnia was not charging when i used a new Belkin universal charger. There is a new standard for USB devices that are only chargers.  If the device can supply 800ma, then the D+ and D- wires are to be shorted together at the charger. This allows the device usng the charger to easily detect that iti is connected to a charger and does not have to perform the normal power negotation ahndshake.

I modified a USB cable to short the data lines and bingo... the Omnia now immediately goes into charging mode, while itis on, when I connect it to any USB power source.  I tried the original belkin, a lenmar tiny LiPO emergency supply and a bench supply at 5V.  They all worked.

I hope this helps.

Just for reference: http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml

You'd think the charger would just have pins 2 and 3 shorted internally...?

I am beside myself with irritation right now over this usb charging issue.  I just spent $70 for a usb backup battery only to find out that you can't charge the i910 with the data cable unless plugged into an actual computer.

And this grandmax g600 option is a no go because it is sold out.

So I'm still up a creek without a paddle if I get stuck in a vehicle with no working cigarette lighter plug except that now I'm $70 lighter in the wallet for a non-solution!

Ah, but you can!  You just need Samsung's OTHER data cable, which they'll be happy to sell you for $20. http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/mobile/mobile-phones/mobile-phone-accessories/APCBS10UBEBSTD/index.idx?pagetype=acc_detail&subsubtype=data-cables-kits

Nope, the APCBS10UBEBSTD will not charge the phone unless it is off or plugged into an actual computer.  I have 2 of these and one of the other and they don't work.

Again, the idea here isn't emergency power.  The idea is to have all the power I need if I can't plug into a charger or a computer.  Plus, it would be nice to run off the usb battery just to avoid charging feedback into the truck stereo.  That alternator whine really is annoying and the phone battery only goes for about 3 hours if I'm streaming a radio station.

Hello World,

I have the same problem like many of i910 owner, which the plain old simple USB charger no longer works when trying to charge our Omnia i910 with the supplied data cable.

However, after some hacking around, and I have get it to work (well not perfect, read below)

I purchased a i910 USB "Charger" cable from eBay for a few bucks, which claims it can charge the phone. And when I received it, it WILL NOT charge my phone at all, and also having a hard time to connect via ActiveSync (BTW, seller was nice enough to offer me another cable, it should be in snail mail now).

So for the mean while, I took apart the cable and I found the +5V from USB connector is connected to Pin 18, 19 & 20. All I did is fire up my solder iron and disconnect the cable from Pin 18, and ta da, I was able to charge my phone with my plain old USB charger.

But as expected, the cable no longer works as data cable.

So here is my idea. Why not install a switch (needs to be very small... Maybe I shall look into my junk parts), to switch between the connection Pin 18 vs 19&20.

On the other hand, I am kind of lazy right now, since this cable I will leave it in my car most of the time just for charging... so I don't really care about PC Conncetion for now.

So, for those of you want to make a charge cable, just make sure Pin 18 is not connected. Another idea I have is, I wonder if I can connect Pin 18 with a pull up resister, so the same cable can be use for charging as well as PC Connection.

I have read another post about make a short for D+ & D- pin, but that seems to be for Omnia II. I am not very comfortable shorting pins.... Wink

p.s. the link for Grandmax G600 method no longer works, so I have no idea what is that about.

Who paid $600 for this phone?  I paid $100 for it back in Feb. 2009.

And $70 for a backup battery? If that's how much they cost, I'll wait for my upgrade....
I'm having battery charging problems myself, with the 'paused by temperature' error, and the battery not holding a charge now.  But I'm not going to pay almost as much for another battery as I did for the phone almost 2 years ago.

I'll wait for the upgrade in 2 mos. and figure something else out, myself....

There's a site called Ebay where you can get cheap batteries, some are less than $5.
