Soft reset is like rebooting your PC.

Hard reset is like formatting and installing the new OS to your PC, or bring back your phone to factory default settings as if you just took it out of the box the first time.

Ok. So hard resetting isnt something you do physicaly, but rather you go into the phones settings and chose to reset to factory default settings? there are no reset button in the phone (like under the battery or something) or anything like that?

TO DO A SOFT RESET SIMPLY PRESS THE RESET BUTTON NEXT TO THE POWER BUTTON AT THE TOP OR SIMPLY TURN THE PHONE OFF AND PUT IT BACK ON

TO DO A HARD RESET YOU CAN DO IT IN SETTING>>SYSTEM>>HARD RESET THEN PRESS CLEAR MEMORY OR YOU CAN DO IT BY TURNING OFF THE PHONE....HOLDING THE CALL AND END KEYS AND HOLD THE POWER BUTTON...YOU SHOULD GET THE OMNIA SCREEN FOLLOWED BY A PROMPT TO HARD RESET BY PRESSING THE SEND KEY

I don't think so. Even I upgrade my FW, all "my storage" still there except I have to reinstall all my applications.

Hard Reset
1.Press soft reset hole beside the power button.
2.Press Call and Cancel Button together when you see the Samsung Omnia on the screen.
3.Reset Screen appear with "Are you sure you want to format? Format or Cancel".
This hard reset does not erase the 8/16GB memory. To reset everything, you could use
the software hard reset > Settings > Hard Reset.
There is also option to format the storage card.

Hello,

Thanks for your replies! Even I'm confused now, as we have two relatively opposite opinions A) all data will be deleted b) my storage stays , programs are deleted. Does this mean that the settings for teach individual program are deleted too?

"I don't think so. Even I upgrade my FW, all "my storage" still there except I have to reinstall all my applications." >>> read carefully. I said that "My Storage" - my mp3 & mp4 still intact after I flash my Omnia. I have to reinstall my gps software & my 3rd programs because they are deleted. sd card is not affected. This is for my case.

This below I obtained from forum, I never tested it. Maybe you can try & let us know.

Option 1: Hard Reset & keep your storage

1.Press soft reset hole beside the power button.
2.Press Call and Cancel Button together when you see the Samsung Omnia on the screen.
3.Reset Screen appear with "Are you sure you want to format? Format or Cancel".
This hard reset does not erase the 8/16GB memory.

Option 2: Hard Reset & lose everything
use the software hard reset > Settings > Hard Reset.

There is also option to format the storage card.
