Hi Folks,

I've recently bought an unlocked Omnia and love it. I updates the software to DZHK3 and everything works fine apart from geotagging photos. I have Garmin Mobile XT installed and it works great, picks up sat lock fairly quickly. My problem is that when I take a picture it always shows 0 for lat lon and height. I've searched a lot through various forums and posts but can't find a definative guide on how to take geotagged photos. I've heard people say that the sat icon turns grey/white when taking photos but I cant see this icon anywhere when I'm taking photo's. Can someone please tell me exactly (step by step) how to take a geotagged photo. Thanks to all in advance for any help.

The issue you have is a firmware bug I believe! Upgrade the firmware. I'm using HL2 and the GPS is stupid quick!

No too sure about 'Official' releases, but it must have been released somewhere, they don't just make it up! I believe even that has been superseded now with HH3...

Thanks for the replies guys, chunkhead  sorry I'm fairly new to all this. When you say upgrade the firmware to HL2 I'm confused. I've downloaded and installed the latest firmware from samsung. My version is
pda i900DXHK3/DZHK3
phone i900DXHK3

Is this not the latest firmware? If theres a newer one for my phone where do I get it? Is it another .exe or is it a  more complicated procedure? Thanks again guys.

Parmenion,

I belive you have the latest official. I havn't heard of anything newer on Samsungs website. I belive HL2 is a leaked ROM that others are building custom ROM's with.

Thanks DD So would I be better off waiting for an official upgrade or is it the same process to upgrade to custom rom? I mean is the custom rom an exe or is there more to it?

Parmenion,

I myself am only using official ROM's right now. I know that if you go to a custom ROM and want to go back to an official ROM that it is a nightmare. Custom ROM's have some benefits over official one's like lower memory consumption and others. It's really up to the individual user as to what’s best for you. I would suggest doing a lot of research and then maybe a little more before making any decisions. Please say thanks with a cookie up and to the left so others know I’ve helped.

Thanks

Official ROMS are just that, official. There is no difference in installing a custom ROM from an official one.

Custom ROMS contain, or don't contain stuff that you need\don't need. The official ROMS will be designed with a "General" purpose in mind. I'm sure that there is a lot of stuff in your Omnia that you will never use, why not delete them and use the space for something that you will use.

I had an insane amount of trouble with the original "Official" HJ1 firmware that came on my Omnia, so much so that all my friends and family laughed at me because it was always broken, overheating, freezing, rejecting calls, etc.

I bit the bullet and went researching on the Custom ROMS. Went over the procedure a few times, picked a ROM that looked like it suited my needs and went for it!

I chose the PDAVIET v11 ROM. HL2, deleted the Samsung software completely, frontend is Manila 2D, lots of stuff removed, a few other things added in.

This custom ROM has not crashed ONCE in two months! It is quick, has loads of free space and makes my Omnia shine like it's supposed to and the GPS is great!

Official ROMS are a great starting point, not a solution. Read up on the risks associated with it, weigh up the pros and cons, see what you want to do!

Hope this info helps!

Thanks chunkhead, I've had a look on Modaco and read a bit about custom roms. Your advice seems spot on. If I take the chance and install the custom rom I'll let you know.
