So yeah for those of you who like to stick with the samsung specific stuff...

http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-rom-discussion/277036/clean-dxhl2-rom-updated-jan-03-2009-lufeigs-lfi04d/

There are a ton of CAB files ripped from the hxhl2 rom ...

I have attached the Samsung Online Widgets.  Keep in mind it is international so there arent a ton of useful widgets.  Weather.... google.... and my fav. the new widget widget that lets you search for other widgets lol.

It is ok.  I am still testing it.

The what I installed it was...

Uncheck Samsung Widgets in the today screen.
Installed Samsung Online Widgets (On the Storage)
Soft Reset
Let it do its thing.

have FUN!

Keep in mind I am still testing all of this out...  Unfortunately I have a few other things I run on my phone like SPB Mobile Shell.  So its kinda difficult for me to determine what might be causing what bugs.  So far so good though!

I have read somewhere that widgets are imposibble to create,  well my frind with this cab  you can create your own widgets.  just  copy the content of \\windows\onlinewidgets  to your computer    and  go to the folder widgets and change some widget extension from wgt  to zip   and then extract the zip  and voila  you will see that this widgets are only html Cheesy    so now everyone can create their own widgets  (wgt files)  upload to that folder and use them........

I succeded creating  a hello world widget yesterday i still don know  how the api of the phone works now i only show text and that kind of stuff   i will trace the dom tree and see if there are any JS functions like   get appointments,  enable/disable wifi bloetooth and so on.  i will post a "HOW TO" later today since i am on work until 5pm  european time...  got d... i hate this job...   you can also use flash lite 2.1  to put flashesh inside the html   and  you can also download widgets  from   http://widgets.opera.com/   but they are all for desktop there isnt any widget for  win mo  they all use hi resolution Cheesy    and here you can see how to create  this widgets   http://dev.opera.com/articles/widgets/

This is the best thing in the new year after buying an OMNIA Cheesy

Ok here is the how to:

1. create folder  with  two empty files: config.xml  index.html

The config.xml should have this content:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<widget modes="dock, application" dockable="yes">
  <widgetname>MyWidgetName</widgetname>
  <access network="yes"/>
  <description>
    MyWidgetDescription
  </description>
  <id>
    <host>some.domain.com</host>
    <name>MyWidgetName</name>
    <revised>2009-01-14</revised>
  </id>
  <width>200</width>
  <height>200</height>
  <icon>icon.png</icon>
  <author>
    <name>The Jigsaw Puzzle</name>
    <link>http://not.existing.domain.com</link>
    <organization>Jigsaw Organization</organization>
  </author>
</widget>

The index.html should have something like:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<title>More Widget</title>
</head>
<body>
   Hello World
</body>
</html>

2. Put an image with sizes: 41px X 42px (icon.png from the config.xml file)  in the folder  try to be a .png icon a havent  tried with other
3. Zip those three files  with some archiver  but not the folder  only the files
4. Change the extension from  zip   to  wgt
5. Copy to phone via active sync or any other communication you have
6. Open File Explorer just  click on the file it will say  widget successfully installed
7. Close the file explorer and enjoy your Hello World Widget

i only tested this with the plugin mentioned in the first post  i dont know if it will work with the original samsung today plugin. But the plugin in the first post is also original from samsung but is beta for new OMNIA roms

Installed the cab to my Omnia, did a soft reset.  You then have to go to today and items screen.  Uncheck samsung widgets and check the online widgets.

A few seconds later up pops your new widget bar with all the original widgets and all the new ones.

Now running a weather widget off my Omia desktop.  Happy man cheers mate!!

Had a go at the create a widget.

I copied what you did, changed the url in the config to bbc.co.uk url and created a png icon etc.

copied to Omnia and it says installed succesfully but it doesnt show on the bar, even after a reset.

Any ideas (I installed the int widgets cab)

I thought as much, but was trying to get a widget working so I could then tweak the html bit and learn as I go on.  Some more examples would be great cheers.

My first attempt was a plain widget shortcut to the bbc news web page. Later it would be good to do something like the CNN one.  I guess it uses a larger desktop gxf with a link to the RSS feed for the news stories?

Here it is the BBC widget  if you want to use it on your phone just rename it  to *.wgt   if you want to see how it's created you can unzip-it and see it it's really easy

If you want you can change CNN's widget by going to the phones root folder \\windows\onlinewidgets\widgets\CNN.wgt   change it's extension from wgt to zip  and see how it's created or just chage the images and the rss sources and maybe if you'll be lucky enough it will work.

What i am interested now is interaction with the phone. Something like enabling disabling bluetooth, i found some functions in the  window and  window.widget object with obfuscated names  but i only see the names i need to digg deeper into this objects to find something usefull. It will be nice to create some interesting bluetooth and wifi widgets like those from FEwidgets for bluetooth and wifi  and also the 3D clock is very nice which was made by twolf.  Also i still havent try SWF but i think it will work  so,  a little help will be nice if there is some other interested in creating widgets and exploring the posibilities Cheesy
