When you install the ICS cab file onto your phone, where do you save it to?  Also, after it's installed on your phone and you plug your phone into your laptop via USB what do you do next to get it to work?

Hey Everyone!  My first post and I hope it doesn't seem redundant to what's already been talked about BUT....

I just received my Omnia i910 yesterday and was anxious to install the ICSInstall.CAB to hook up to the internet via PC.

Couple of issues so far.  I downloaded and installed WMDC and connected to my phone with no problems.  I installed the ICSInstall.CAB to the phone and installed it.  After this was installed I'm unable to connect via USB with WMDC anymore.

I connected to broadband running the INTSHRUI, but it only stays connected for about 10 seconds and then disconnects on its own. It keeps doing this over and over and I'm unable to stay connected to broadband. I'm a newb to this phone and would appreciate any help getting set up.

This is the only program I've installed to the phone.  I did not installed the WIFI program because I don't want to use it that way.

Thanks!

Does anyone have a fix for this? I'm having the same exact problem! It's only giving me "Local Access" -- I'm wondering if it's related to a weak broadband signal.

I'm going out of my mind here.  I've been trying to get this thing configured for the past 2 hours and am ready to throw my phone and laptop out the window!!!

I installed the ICS Cab, I soft reset the phone, I reinstalled the VZAccess Manager.  Where it says "Please select the connectivity option you wish to use with your wireless device" 1:  data cable (for tethered handsets and PDAs/Advanced Devices) 2:  PC Card, Express Car or USB Modem 3:  Bluetooth (For devices that support Dial-up networking via Bluetoot).

I chose 1:  Data Cable and hit the next button.  It then says "If you have not already installed the data cable drivers supplied with the cable, you must install them now.  To install the data cable drivers click the Cancel button belwo and see documentation included with the calbe.

Please plug the data cable into your wireless phone and then plug the cable into your computer.  Make sure your wireless phone is turned on.  CHECK!!

I hit Next and it says "Detecting device on COM 3", then it immediately says (X)  A wireless phone was not found.  Make sure the data cable is securely plugged into your wireless phone and your computer.  Also check to make sure the power to your wireless phone is on and close all other applications that may be using the COM port.

Would anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong and can assist me?

I was down in Texas for over 2 weeks and the only internet available where I stayed was less than dial up speeds through a satellite dish. I tried tethering my phone to the laptop but wasn't able to. Talked to VZW and was told "for 30 dollars a month, we'll be happy to connect your phone to your laptop"  Huh?
Needless to say this is a bit cheaper  Undecided
I'm tethered right now!

I just put this on my i910, works great.  You are bypassing vz access manager, it is not needed.  Please follow these steps and you will be surfing for free in no time:
1.Download/Install the "ICSInstall.CAB" file.
(You may not need to do 2 - 6 but this is how I got it to work.)
2.Restart your phone
3.Test the install by Connecting the USB cable to your computer
4.Then run "IntShrUI" from the Programs Menu and select "Connect"
5.If done correctly the program should display "Connected"
6.I did not go past this point-if you do, you can wirlessly tether with bluetooth.  Battery life is average to poor at best, so why bother with a wireless tether
7.Now select "Disconnect" and disconnect the USB cable
8.Download/Install the "WMWifiRouter91.CAB" file
9.Restart your phone
10.Turn on Wifi
11.Run WMWifiRouter from the Programs Menu
12.Select "Connect"
13.If done correctly the program should display "Connected to WMWifiRouter Ready"
14.From your computer search for the "WMWifiRouter" wireless connection
15. Surf at will!
Please note, you may need to restart your phone a few times.  I did not do the wireless part so good luck on that!
No issues with windows synch, although i do lose connection when i answer the phone-working on that-still a small price to pay!
I run windows mobile 6.1/spbmobile shell 3.0
I am a newb-i love my omnia!

Thanks jig but is this for usb connected or blue tooth?  From your description I don't see that you reconnect the usb cable.

The way it works is you connect to your phone via WiFi and then your computer uses the phone's data connection to access the internet.

Ok, so it still won't solve the problem of the quick battery usage?

You can leave the phone plugged in while you're using this I guess?

Yes, the phone can stay plugged in and charge while you are tethered.  The main point I want to make clear is that you are going around VZ Access manager.  If that is open in any way it might not work because it will search for the usb connection.  Yes, I was really nervous about doing this the first time, but well worth it.  In reading some of the other threads, I would caution you from using it for your main data connection.  I use it to browse the web and check email when I am away from a wifi connection only.  I had 2 bars showing for coverage, running outlook with folders up to date, Facebook open, cnn's main page up and loaded in less than 1 minute.  Also signed in to OCS so I could live chat in the office.  I have an unlimited data plan, and yes, I want to play it safe.  Getting ready to put 6.5 on.  Wish me luck.  Probably over the weekend sometime.  Hope this helps!

Huh?? I pay for the unlimited data plan, and do this all the time. Am I missing something in your post Knotbeerdan? Have been for the many years with Verizon. On this phone since its Windoze based, everything is there ready to go, just pay for the unlimited data plan. On my previous Palm based Treo, I had to buy an app to make it work (I think there was a free hacked version as well).

Update: mmmm, nevermind, this is for a wifi connection from pc to phone and then phone to internet. I use the phone as a modem via the USB cable. works great for me. I dont see any reason for trying to do this myself.....If your phone can connect to a wifi, why wouldnt you just connect your laptop??? or again am I missing something?

Be aware, the free version and paid verion can have problems with the I910 model.

Mine at first worked great, then it deleted my WI-FI section in Wireless Manager completely. I had to do a Hard Reset to correct. Which is a HUGE pain.

What proof do you have to verify this?  I've never heard of anyone having tethering problems specific to the i910.  It's very possible something else caused your wifi settings to disappear, in fact this happened to me I believe using the WiFiWMRouter software ( one of the many reasons I don't use it ) And I think you're over stating how huge of pain hard resetting is.. it's  a simple process and if you synch your contacts all you have to do is install whatever apps you use.  If you back up those cabs in your storage you can be back to where you left off in as little as 15 minutes without and backup software.
