After some time I realized that my touch screen was a way out of wack.
When I tried to recalibrate my screen, apparently I ended up with a never ending loop align screen.
After I tapped five points to align the screen, it went back to the first point in the center to be aligned.

I googled about this problem, and I found some forums discussing the similar problem (even not for Omnia).
Almost all of them sugessting to clean up some dirts between the screen and the frame using a thin-stiff paper. But unfortunately, it didn't work for me.

Any solutions?

Soft reset try again. Try this instead after loop cleared # 43http://www.samsung-omnia.org/how-to/howwhatwherewhichwhywhen/30/

This drove me nuts too.  The solution is pretty simple - instead of tapping on each point, draw a tiny circle there.  This works without fail for me.

I had the same issue and ended up having to tap each cross 5 to 10 times before it let me exit the calibration step.  I followed the steps on the "How TO #8" to install the reg editor and then "How To #43" and changed to the recommended setting for better screen calibration and it is working very well.

This is an annoying issue. I'm thinking about sending my phone in for repairs or using my insurance to get another one. I ended up getting so pissed that I just pressed on the alignment screen as hard as I could and it finally worked!

I could swear i was SOL when my initial calibration (after the official samsung update) was just repeating itself and wouldn't let me go any further.

Reading this thread saved me;  i drew little circles around the target and after 3 cycles, IT WORKED!  (and still pretty accurate)

I know this thread is old but still i wanted to say thanks for this site and this post.

Now i can go back to hacking this thing!   Grin

This is embarrassing but I could use a "How To' on finding "How To #8".

I've tried all the tricks listed in this forum and still have a looping Align Screen.  The initial, post-hard reset, loop went on for almost 100 cycles.

I've tried to find #8 but no luck thus far.

Have you tried this?
Align Screen Trap of Omnia

After Hard Reset of the Omnia, some users were unable to get pass the alignment screen and end up in a loop. It kept asking the users for the screen alignment.

Let's us give u a simple solution to work out of the screen alignment trap and work for most users. Press and hold the + sign and it will move to another location. Perform the same thing by pressing and hold the + sign and continue until screen alignment is complete. It is best to use a stylus to perform this job although your finger can also perform the same thing.

Another method is go to notepad and create a file called welcome.not and save it to the removable memory card. Put the removable memory card back to your Omnia and ON it. You will get past the screen alignment trap and Omnia will start up.

There is a bug in the calibration software and the only way to get around it is by modifying the registry editor. This only work if you are able to load the software is just performing screen alignment for better performance.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->HARDWARE->DEVICEMAP->TOUCH.
Change the key value for MaxCalError from 7 to a bigger value (for example 14). Do a soft reset and start a manual re-Align of the screen.

Thanks.  I only use stylus when aligning the screen.  I had tried the circles, and  holding the point.  Still, the lengthy loops.  At one point I counted 75 cycles and just did another hard reset.

I took your advice and change the registry using SKTools.  I tried increments, going from 7>8, then from 8>10.  Once at 8, I got tired after 10 cycles and did a soft reset.  With it set at 10, it cycled six times and cleared.  I'm going to keep an eye on the accuracy, since that's why I wanted to re-align in the first place.  If it's good, then I'm done.

Thanks for the information.

Outstanding! One of the most helpful tips I've ever read for resolving problems on my Omnia!

Thanks.

Hello all.

I see the fix but I cannot get the edit to stick.  I got CEregeditor 0.0.5.2 The latest release I could find  and ran the unlock tool and it SAYS it is unlocked but the edit will not take.  it says access denied. I tried this multiple times and always in Admin mode.  Any Ideas would be helpful....especially if the come before I see how far I can skip this phone across the lake.

Thnx.
