i900 SHKv99 6.1. Galaxy S2 4.0.3

« on: October 20, 2009, 03:56:29 PM »

This should also work on v3, I did it on v3.5.
It will save you 320KB of disk space. Go to Program files/SPB M shell then to the only ZIP folder in there. Put a copy on another drive or in a folder on your PC, this is your backup. Copy a 2nd one to your desktop and click on it to open it, inside are the different languages. Each language has 2 files(next to each other), delete all but the 2 that are for your language, English is the first 2 files. Then overwrite the file on your phone by dragging it to the SPB folder(using Activsync). The size on disk for only English is 16KB, where as for all languages it's 336KB.
It seems to work fine like this and as with most things in life, there's no guarantee   Tongue can't see why it would cause harm unless you deleted the wrong language files  Cheesy

Lublin, nice one! I have just one question: After I copied the zip file to my pc and opened it I deleted all languages except the 2 dutch files. Then I have a map of 51kb. When I copy this map back to my device in the SPB shell folder It does not overwrite the original because it's not a zip file. So I end up with both the original file and the 51kb map. Can I just delete the original file?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, when I said "open" I meant just click on it not unzip it. If you do it this way all will be fine.

You have to do the procedure again after you update to a newer version.

I think the folder sizes are different now but you still save a LOT of space on My Device  Wink
Don't forget to redo it after every update. I also delete all the original pictures out of this folder as I never use them. It's best to drag and drop any pictures you want to delete to your PC just to check you have the right one/s. I also deleted all but 1 of the original windows backgrounds: My Documents/My Pictures. (I can't remember if it played up when I deleted all the WM pictures from here, which is why I always leave 1 now  Undecided )
Another way to save space is: when you install an SPB app sometimes it installs a language pack in the main Windows folder (you will have to enable 'show all hidden' in your sync program to see this folder). You can then go into this folder and look for the SPB language files, like in the picture, mine have the FireFox symbol but I don't know if it changes if you use another browser on your PC. Each file has the language type at the end of the file name, such as 'en' for English and 'rus' for Russian etc (do I need to tell you only to delete the languages that you aren't using?). If you are unsure about the file then again drag it to your PC and have a look. But if in doubt then leave it there because deleting stuff from here can stop your phone from working, if you delete anything and your phone doesn't work, then you deleted something other than what I have said and it's your own fault, as I have done this a few times without any problems at all.
REMEMBER If the file looks different to the ones in the picture below then do not delete it AND make sure it is not your language so it's a file that you need.

Obviously I would not delete the file highlighted as my OS/Shell/SPB apps are in English.
