i900 SHKv99 6.1. Galaxy S2 4.0.3

« on: June 10, 2010, 03:44:04 AM »

I first installed SKTools on my phone about a year ago and it had lots of useful options. Yesterday had to do a hard reset because of SKTools, I removed an update of Youtube which didn't work for whatever reason, I removed it using the uninstall program in SKT, it removes a program then does a second scan in which it lists Reg keys which are from the uninstalled program and can be removed or so it usually does, this time however, it listed a lot of keys, 'hmmmm looks like a lot of keys' I thought, but I thought I would test to see if it was or not by deleting them (I can always hard reset) and guess what, my phone instantly started losing shortcut icons and programs started to either not start or work incorrectly. So I did a hard reset, my first in months, and started to reinstall everything but unfortunately I had a problem with .NET v35 so decided to uninstall it and again on the second scan it listed loads of Reg keys, at this point I had already decided to do anther hard reset and so deleted all the keys listed and yet again it messed my phone up. I have uninstalled other apps in the past with SKT and it has listed a few keys which I have removed without any bad consequences.
Another thing that I noticed during this time was that SKT didn't have the same options that it used to have when I first installed it (newer version now), options like disable thread messaging, don't delete SIM contacts when the card is removed and WLAN 802.11G support, maybe some of these are set by default now I don't know as there are no options for these and others I suspect (vaguely remember). I E-mailed SKT and to cut a long story short I asked them if there were an older version which had these settings, they sent me an old version but it still never had the settings. I then thought that there might be a settings folder hiding somewhere that was causing this so I looked in every folder for SKT files, I found some and deleted them. Then I deleted the Reg keys for SKT, reset my phone and reinstalled but again the options weren't there. Also when I tried to reinstall a different version of SKT a message appeared that the new install was unsuccessful but afterward the program would run??? So I hard reset again and installed everything with the addition of a 'turn off thread messaging cab'.
I did have another problem with one app not finding .NET 3.5 so I uninstalled it from my PC and then synced and did a reinstall on the phone where the phone removes and re-installs it which is safer than you doing it and the reinstalling, after this all the apps worked OK including the app that couldn't find .NET 3.5
Some of the options, I believe, in SKTools are WM version dependent, I'm running 6.1 (like I always have) so you might get different options if you run 6.5 but I'm not 100% sure about that.

To sum up: It is safer not to do the second scan when removing programs, leaving a few 'dead' Reg keys won't hurt but removing a few (or even one) live keys will mess your phone up.
And the program has lost some of it's usefulness because of the missing options.
SKTools used to be in first place with SPB Shell as my favorite programs but now unfortunatly it has fallen a long way down from this place.  Sad
I would still recommend SPB Shell to anyone and everyone though.  Wink Smiley

If you have had real problems with SKTools, not just minor moans or complaints, then post them below please.

I'm using version 4.5.1.4, don't know whether it is the latest.

I only used it to clear the memory, free up RAMs and only, for a couple of time, moved some applications to My Storage from the main memory.

I also had a problem, which I suspect is caused by SKTools.

On a few occasions, after I clear the memory and free up RAMs, my device will not ring when there's an incoming call. I have to restart the device for the rings to work again.

As for removing/uninstalling programs, it is still safer to use the default WinMo's Remove Programs found in [Settings] > [System], using SKTools to clean it, only, after a soft-reset.

When I was on holiday the phone wouldn't get a GPS lock, and I waited ages with each GPS program. I had the phone optimized to 'Performance' with SKtools so I tried setting it to 'Stability' and very quickly after doing this my GPS programs got a lock.
