Yeah all I really care about is a faster locking time.  I live in Boston but depending on where I am in the city I can go from being instantly located to it taking up to 20 minutes just to locate my position.

To be honest, that's the only thing I'm jealous of the iPhone...  AT&T gives them a-GPS and keeps it unlocked..  I ended up getting rid of mine, but my bosses 3GS gets locks inside our building in under 10 seconds

I couldn't agree more.  My fiancee has an iPhone 3G and when we need to know where we are or the location of a place she beats me to it hands down.  Her gps is way faster than mine so we always have to end up using her phone, plus sometimes I don't even get a lock when she does.  I actually get upset when she beats me to google maps and finds out where we are.  She actually doesn't even bother to ask me to use my phone when she's driving.  She just hands me her phone and says look this up.

Hey guys.  We FINALLY got an administrator from Verizon to make a statement regarding the GPS update for the Omnia.  Looks promising,  to me at least!  Remember;  This is from an ADMINISTRATOR and not just a regular MODERATOR!  It reads as follows:

---------------------------
Community,

The "It's Official..." thread has been merged with this existing thread because the subject matter is the same.  The thread itself will not be locked - so long as the comments remain in line with the terms of service with this community.

As for the matter at hand - the key information communicated by our Executive Escalation depart includes a 'target' delivery date.  As many of you know, we have recently deployed updates to other smartphones and remain committed to providing the previously communicated update to the Omnia.

We apologize if the timeframe is not in line with the expectations of some of our customers - but there is even less value in releasing software that has not been fully tested and is not up to Verizon Wireless' standards.

So - the net of this message post is: we remain committed to the update to the Omnia,it will be released as soon as it meets our standards, and we cannot provide a more specific date other than 'as soon as possible'.

Again, it is not our intention to quiet the voice of our customers.  If the community feels there is value in discussing this matter in this thread, the feedback is welcomed - so long as it is in line with the Terms of service.

Thank you for your feedback.

I just read this on another thread.

Please try not to double post. If you think it is an important topic then start a new thread in the future.

IMO they are just blowing smoke up our butts to get everyone to calm down. If the update is not up to their standards then why did they release it for the saga?

I think they are just still tryin to figure out how to lock some stuff so we can't use it

Your right but at the same time we need to try to keep the forum as clean as possible. There are only like 7 admins and 24468 members. That makes a lot of work for them.

It was kind of a ridiculous comment.  Granted the fact that you kind of sounded like you are trying to be a moderator.  It's annoying when regular users enforce rules.  But I get what you're saying.  However it's not the case this time.  I posted it here first because it pertains to the topic and those wanting to know about the official update would keep the discussion within this thread.

On adrynalyne's thread I posted it because it actually has to do with custom ROMs because the research could be beneficial to future custom ROMs.  It also made it so people reading adrynalyne's post would see it.

They are two different posts also.  I just used the same letter as reference in both.  It's kind of ridiculous to call that double posting considering the "Steven Schwed" and Verizon customer service letters have been posted on this forum 10,000 times all in separate threads.  It's a bit hypocritical and quite anal to think what I did is making the forum "messy".  I did just the opposite.  Not that I even think a forum can really get messy to begin with.  I think someone is letting their post count get to their head.  Once people get comfortable on a forum and are in cahoots with moderators or cooks they seem to start taking on the role of a moderator.

I mean no offense though.  Just letting you know that my intentions were not double posting and if you double check you will realize that.  I have never double posted and always use the "Edit" function to add on to posts when it involves the same topic or response.

Hey guys.  We finally got in response to the heated Omnia GPS thread over at the official VZW forums.  An administrator FINALLY came and responded after almost 2 years of people going crazy and getting dull answers from simple forum moderators.  Let me remind you that this is from an ADMINISTRATOR and not just a simple MODERATOR.  It looks promising guys!  here it is;

--------------

Compare the two..

Post count go to my head??? WTF dont take offense after sayin i amd steping out of my boundary's?  Cry

IF you are searching for a thread with a specific post in it, more for the information in the thread rather the post and that post is in multiple threads it gets to be more of a lengthy search and people are more reluctant to use the search then we get repeated questions.

Second of all the post counts, the post counts dont really count for much. Figure half of them are asking questions as the other half are answering them. In order to answer them you have to be able to find the related threads to direct them to.

Not trying to overstep my boundary's but trying to make what i do in my free time (that seemingly enough benefits others) not any harder than it has to be. It is great news what you are saying and i really am happy to hear about it. But the rules are in place for a reason. We all had to read them and we all have to abide by them.

It is a double post because it is almost word for word identical. Like i said compare them.

Now im not wasting any more posts on this BS. Cool

Eh speaking of making the forum messy you didn't properly quote my post.  I couldn't even stand reading your rebuttal in that mess of gray.  Another thing is that a double post means posting twice in the same thread right after you've just posted.  It also doesn't mean the same exact post...it could mean just posting again right after you've posted rather then EDITING your post to add the extra info.  You're not even enforcing the proper definition of the rule.

It wasn't a double post.  The LETTER IS IDENTICAL and you also cut the end of my post out which was the part that was different.  The purpose of the post was different.  Like I said you are being anal about something that wasn't a big deal.  Would it of made a big difference whether I posted that once or not?  NO!!!  I told you that I do not double post and this was the first time that I even came close to being considered doing it.

Let's put this behind us and move on to more important things.  I'm sorry for being snappy and I hope you can apologize for being a little anal about the rules.  Either that or we can agree to disagree.  Like I said there has been 10,000 posts of the "Steven Schwed" letter which by your standards would be considered a billionth-post.

Here are the forum rules.  Nowhere does it say not to post "similar things" in two different threads.  So I find it funny that you said "we all read the rules and have to abide by them".

I think this is something that could have been taken care of via PM!!!!!

However, since it's public now... I agree with wishdishmeen.  It's two different topics and pretains to both.  A double post is posting hit, then hitting 'back', and clicking post again to create the same post TWICE.  Not to different threads.

LOL, should we create a poll/topic to see what everyones definition of double posting is?
